Yeap, I’m in Wichita with my best bud and long time shooting partner Kevin. While this is not my first time to go to work with him, I always leave thinking if was my last. Why? I’m on my best behavior except for that sign, “No Cameras.” Damn if that doesn’t always get me in trouble! So, I’ll be at “work” for the day other then taking a quick flight down to OK for lunch. Then back for a repack (stripping down my gear weight from 132lbs to 70) so we can load up in the Cessna 206 Thursday to Oshkosk. Yeap, for those counting, it will be a week of aviation and aviation people oriented blogs. This is a whole new experience for me and will be playing it out here blow by blow as it unfolds. The photo here is from yesterday mornings breakfast at Stearman Field. This is a student pilot who was doing touch and go’s to get his ticket. We were roused from our meal by a L-39 doing strafing runs. We got out and got our cameras (leaving some damn fine coffee) only to catch the tail end of his last run. I plan to do better this week. Stay tuned, mayhem to follow!

What’s the difference between the two photos? Both shot well before sunrise, both shot at -2.5exp comp, both shot within 20sec of each other but hopefully you can see a difference. To me it’s an important one. The top image was shot with the WB of Cloudy and the bottom one shot with the WB of Cloudy A6. Don’t know how to do that? Where’s that dang instruction book when you need it!

Hot dang, it’s finally out! Our latest training course on Kelby Training just went live. While Jake, myself and are 600mms might be a repeat, nothing, nothing else is in this latest class. I mean really, if you’re like me, this reality is something you’ve known since high school (though I lucked out). At our Base Camp, we have a lesson on photographing the “Beautiful People.” The reason is simple, no one wants to see a photograph of an ugly eagle, and they are out there. The photographs that have been squelched from the gulf of oil stained birds is in part because people don’t like seeing beautiful birds turned brown. Well, now biologists have found biologically, birds think the same way and it’s pretty darn interesting. Though this knowledge doesn’t help my situation in life.
